A one man / one woman duo from Germany, Donna Regina are now three albums into a career that was initially pushed by Matthew Herbert. 'Late' is an extension, a clarification, of their sound, where a warm but sparse electronic pulse and yearning vocals are occasionally spliced by guitars, a near relation to the Nancy Sinatra gone electro-pop leanings of Birmingham's Broadcast. It's deeply dreamy, tranquil and wistful, revolving around Regina Janssen's cool, calm, emotionally-detached route by-passing the heart, like St. Etienne's Sarah Cracknell hooked on Kraftwerk. Her simply suggestive way with words never fails to enthral. Rarely is melancholy done quite so magnificently
