Shannon Lyon | Summer Blonde (Square Dog/Town & Country)
Canadian Lyon's career spans ten years and this finely-honed record is considered by many at home to be his finest. His is a singer-songwriterly approach to country music with distinct folky-leanings,and occasional nods towards the mainstream (Did You Know That puts an Adam Duritz spin on things). The lyrics, thankfully not sung in the simpleton-speak of their printed version, are honest if uneventful, and delivered with admirable heart and more than a touch of soul. Imagine Richard Buckner (who guests on Lake Huron) at his most laid-back, singing Lyle Lovett ballads and you'll be near Summer Blonde territory.
