Si-Cut.Db | Find Some Shade (Highpoint Lowlife)
Taking robotic heart from numerous German minimalists, Si-Cut.Db is the far from immediate disguise of the prolific Doug Benford. This time around displaying more vibrancy and greater levels of urgency, Benford plies his distinctive crackles, drifts and ambient twitches onto semi-dance-able rhythms. Dub for day-dreamers; 'Find Some Shade' sounds like tiny grains of sand rattling around a groovebox, like The Orb flirting with a gagged Lee Perry. Longer term admirers of Benford will notice that he never quite threatens to break down any new doors over these eight new instrumentals; more that he gently peers around the corners of them. And for now, that's quite enough to keep us looking out for him too.
