Piano Magic | Speed The Road, Rush The Lights (Green Ufos)
The latest from Glen Johnson's ever-eclectic, label-hopping, free-floating collective, 'Speed The Road, Rush The Lights' is a sumptuous three track single. The lead-song is an ode to unrequited love not far removed from some of Nick Cave's recent work, complete with gorgeous New Order-esque keyboard lines and a suitably dashing finale. Paulette is a tiny instrumental, the pause before Luxembourg Gardens slides into life. A brooding, slow-burning tune where Johnson's own vocals fight for air with Angele David-Guillou's exquisite murmurs, it's drenched in an engrossing twilight melancholy. 4AD's loss is clearly Green Ufos gain.
